Twenty years of unflagging dedication to Angair ended when honorary life member Helen Tutt died at home in Pickworth Drive on 23 July.

Angair will miss her passionate commitment to preserving the local bush and heathland and her skills in negotiating with local organisations to further the society’s conservation goals.

Helen had spent family holidays in Anglesea as a child but she and her husband Jim only became involved in community affairs when they retired to Pickworth Drive in 2003. Two years later she became active in the 2005 wildflower show, although the couple had been Angair members since 1998.

Two years later, Helen joined the committee and went on to be a vice-president and later president from 2012 to 2014.

She represented Angair on numerous reference and working groups: Anglesea Riverbank Master Plan, Anglesea Community Precinct Master Plan, GORCC Coastal Management Plan, Anglesea Communication Network, the Anglesea River Working Group, Alcoa Community Consultation Network, Anglesea Health Committee and the Anglesea Memorial Hall User Group. She convened the annual wildflower weekend for more than eight years, with energy, innovative ideas and an enviable eye for detail.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at the Anglesea Bowling Club at 3 pm on Friday, September 7.
