Get to Know our Tracks. Urquhart Bluff to Fairhaven, approximately 7km (a moderate walk with some steepish sections and steps).
This walk is part of the Surf Coast Walk and includes a car shuttle. From the lower carpark at Urquhart Bluff we will head up through coastal bushland along a track showing remnants of the original Great Ocean Road. After occasional glimpses across coastal heathland to the ocean, we will reach Sunnymead Beach and continue up to a level, well-defined track. Coastal Moonah Woodland gives way to wind and salt-pruned vegetation allowing expansive views of the sea and cliffs from the numerous lookouts. We may hear Rufous Bristlebirds calling from the undergrowth as we approach the Split Point lighthouse and Eagle Rock.
Following a lunch stop at the picnic ground near the Painkalac estuary, we will check for waterbirds at the Allen Noble Sanctuary and cross the creek to Fairhaven.
Wear sturdy boots. Bring morning tea and lunch and a hiking stick.
