People from the Plant Propagation Group

If we get some rain then people may want to start planting their gardens again. We are not having another open day but if you want plants you are welcome to come on any Thursday morning or give us a ring on 5263 3673 and arrange a private viewing. We still have a good range at $2 each or 6 for $10. We still meet at 9.30 a.m. at Grasstrees, Hurst Road.

Thanks for the forest tubes and cartons. Please continue to leave them at the ANGAIR Office.

We continue to make progress. We now have many Xanthorrhoea australis plants from the seed collected at the YMCA Camp after a burn off last year. Graham Rees, their Maintenance Manager, covered the best spikes with plastic feed bags after the flowers finished and before the predators arrived. Three months later the protected spikes, after drying, produced a mass of seed. We then soaked one sample in water. We didn’t use smoke water as last year that didn’t work. Four months ago the seeds were potted straight into forest tubes, half using our old potting mix and the rest, the new lower pH mix. Already there has been marked improvement with the soaked seeds in the new potting mix. Sixty have gone into larger tubes. Sally has had great fun with this project. Please don’t ask to buy them yet as they are only 2cm high.

Recycle your forest tubes and cartons

The ANGAIR Plant Propagation Group is very short of forest tubes and always like more cartons. Please leave them at the ANGAIR Office. Thanks in advance for your support.
